Cartridge filter dust collector
Self-cleaning filter for the separation of dust from the air
What is the cartridge filter?
The cartridge filter dust collector is a self-cleaning filter used to separate the solid particles in suspension in the air flow to be treated. This type of filter is suitable for the treatment of dust with different granulometry and it can be used in production contexts characterised by limited spaces: the high filtering surface area of each individual cartridge makes it possible to reduce the filter dimension.
Dust separation and cleaning of the filtering elements: cartridge filter operation
The inlet of the air to be treated is usually located in the lower part of the dust collector; the air is conveyed by means of a suction system. It passes through a pre-abatement chamber to allow the coarser dust to precipitate, thus protecting the cartridges from excessive dust loads. Then the flow reaches the filtering surface and passes through it: the result is the separation of the suspended particulate, which is then precipitated into the lower part of the filter thanks to the cleaning system.
After that it is conveyed to the hopper and then to the collection systems. These systems can be of different types depending on the needs of the production sector for which the filter is intended: collector, star valve, clapet valve or channel/ducted screw.
The filtering elements are kept perfectly efficient thanks to automatic cleaning cycles which characterize the filter and which are usually carried out by means of reverse jet technology. These are managed by measuring the pressure drop between the clean and the dirty side of the filter thus allowing a limited consumption of compressed air and a longer lifetime of the filtering elements. The cartridges have thin folds and a high filtering surface area; larger cartridges are cleaned by means of a rotating nozzle system.
Each cartridge can be made up of different materials and they can have different diameters and heights depending on the intended use.
According to this factor, they can be classified as follows:
Diameter | Height (H) | Application field | Features | |
Cartridges for fine dust | From 125 to 156 mm | From 600 to 2000 mm | Fumes and powders from laser and plasma cutting processes and welding fumes in general… | Contained filtering surface, wide folds |
Cartridges for medium-fine dust | From 218 to 230 mm | From 600 to 2000 mm | Cement, wood and minerals processing… | Filtering surface and folds are sized according to the powders |
Cartridges for coarse dust | From 300 to 350 mm | From 600 to 1500 mm | Shot blasting, metalworking, powder coating | High filtering surface, thin folds and compactness |
Cartridge filter: available models
The cartridge filter can also be manufactured in ATEX version for flammable and explosive dust and for areas at risk of explosion.
Cartridge filter: advantages
- cartridge filters are manufactured and configured according to the specific use in your business, taking into consideration dust quantity and particle size, temperature and volumetric flow rate;
- thanks to its small dimension it is suitable for use in limited spaces;
- the filter can be designed to achieve very high efficiency levels: even more than 99.9% of dust can be removed;
- it allows the separated solid residue to be reused;
- it does not present any particular level of complexity and it is tested, reliable and cost-effective;
- it can be designed with proper dimensions for both limited and very high flow rates, as it is fully scalable and modular;
- the filter is suitable for ATEX certification, if dusts classified as explosive or flammable are to be handled;
- various possible discharge systems (manual, automatic or customised) can be provided in combination with the hopper;
- it offers easy access for the replacement and maintenance of the filtering elements.
Cartridge filter: disadvantages
- compared to bag filters, cartridge filters are less functional in contexts which are characterized by a high dust concentration;
- the use of cartridge filters is not recommended in the presence of fine dust and materials that tend to clog.
